BACKGROUND:  Troop 82 was chartered on March 1, 1955 by Highland Park Presbyterian Church.  As a Christian ministry of the church, over five thousand Scouts have been members, and over 600 Scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Currently our membership runs around 250 Scouts each school year, representing different schools in several areas of Dallas, including but not limited to St. Marks, Christ the King, Cistercian, Cambridge, Highland Park, ESD, Parish, Providence, Trinity Christian, Dallas ISD, and others.

PURPOSE:  To have FUN, and to learn skills, leadership, and character through troop meetings, camping, and high adventure treks.  We strive to embody good citizenship while learning our responsibility and duty to God, country, others, family, and ourselves.   We utilize the principles of the Scout Law which calls Scouts to be:  Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. As a ministry of the HPPC, the troop does present the gospel of Jesus Christ but welcomes all who profess a belief in God.

ORGANIZATION:  Troop 82 has a highly organized structure in order to efficiently manage the needs of the Scouts.  The Trail to First Class program is detailed so a Scout can earn his Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class rank by following a syllabus on his own or with the Troop.  The Troop is organized by using the BSA, Baden-Powell model for Troops.  For every four patrols, there is a Senior Patrol Leader and his staff to lead the boys in the program.  There are over 120 specific parent volunteer positions to provide the resources to the program.
