BACKGROUND   Troop 82 was chartered on March 1, 1955, and over five thousand Scouts have been members, and almost 600 Scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Currently our membership runs around 220 Scouts each school year, representing different schools in several areas of Dallas, including but not limited to St. Marks, Cistercian, Cambridge, Highland Park, ESD, Parish, Dallas ISD, and others.

 PURPOSE  To have FUN, and to learn Skills, Leadership, and Character while experiencing Troop Meetings, Camping, and High Adventure Treks.  This is embodied in citizenship and learning our responsibility and duty to God, Country, others, family, and to ourselves utilizing the principles of the Scout Law which are:  Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. 

ORGANIZATION  Troop 82 has a highly organized structure in order to efficiently manage the needs of the Scouts.  The Trail to First Class program is detailed so a Scout can earn his Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class rank by following a syllabus on his own or with the Troop.  The Troop is organized by using the BSA, Baden-Powell and National Jamboree models for Troops.  For every four patrols, there is a Senior Patrol Leader and his staff to lead the boys in the program.  There are over 120 specific parent volunteer positions to provide the resources to the program. 

JOINING OUR TROOP:  Troop 82 runs its program on a school year calendar.  The troop begins its recruitment for the following school year in February of each year.  In March of each year the Troop hosts Cub Scouts and other interested boys at a Troop meeting and at a Troop campout for the prospective boys to see the Troop in action.  By June of each year, the Troop endeavors to finalize the roster for the next school year.  Many times boys can join after June or anytime during the school year, but this is not always available due to facility size restraints and program restraints.  Therefore, please contact us in February if at all possible, but feel free to contact us at anytime and we will do our best to serve your needs.  Feel free to contact us at    troop82@hptroop82.org .
